Benzalkonium Chloride vs. Alcohol

Alcohol-based hand sanitizers have many concerns. Starting with the high concentration of alcohol, typically 60-95%. This results in an extremely flammable product, that has specific storage compliance needs. Secondly, there is a growing issue with children being harmed by alcohol-based products. Many children are rubbing alcohol sanitizers into their eyes, which can lead to eye pain, inflammation, swelling and/or discoloration. Also, the belief that all hand sanitizers dry out hands is in fact not true. Alcohol is the ingredient that leaves hands feeling dry, cracked and irritated. This leads to users not applying the product as needed. creating a reduced adherence to hand hygiene standards. Benzalkonium chloride (BZK) is the active ingredient in our alcohol-free hand sanitizer. BZK hand sanitizers are a non-flammable, non-drying, non-irritating alternative, while still killing up to 99.9% of harmful germs and bacteria. Benzalkonium chloride based hand sanitizers have shown to be effective against COVID-19 in a recent study published by BYU.
